Ok, big call I know, but this is officially the best beetroot smoothie I've made; second of course to my Pretty in Pink Beetroot Smoothie, the recipe for which you can find here (with a big fat paragraph telling you about the benefits of beetroot and therefore why you should add them to your diet). For those new to beetroot smoothies I do suggest you go easy on the quantity of beetroot in your smoothie, start with a small quarter and see how you go. As you know beetroot can taste a little 'dirty' - a little goes a long way indeed.

Serves 1

You will need:
1 1/2 cups cashew milk (or milk of choice)
1/3-1/4 avocado
1/2 banana
1 large handful baby spinach
1/4 medium beetroot
1 scoop brown rice protein powder (or powder of choice)
Heaped teaspoon maca powder
1 small slice fresh turmeric

Place all ingredients in a high-powered blender. Combine until smooth. Pour into serving glass and (if it were me) top with Tropical Maple Granola (or bits n bobs of your choosing).

This is a great way to hide veggies in a really pretty smoothie; the kids will never know (assuming you go easy on the quantities, as mentioned above). Speaking of getting a bit sneaky with the kids, we're in the planning stages of creating a kids recipe book. Are there any children's recipes you'd like to see "healthied" up a little? Think recess time, kids parties, after school snacks. We'd dearly love your input in the comments below!
