DIY Maca Face Masks for Dry and Oily Skin
One of the delights of social media is the connections we forge with women doing wonderful things, all over the globe. One such woman is Nicole Shires, an environmental toxic educator from Tasmania. After purchasing some of my maca, Nicole shared a delicious sounding Creamy Vanilla Cacao, combining organic cacao with maca and other delicious ingredients. You can check out that recipe and her highly informative instagram account over at @thesimplegourmetmamma
During our chat, Nicole very kindly shared 2 DIY face mask recipes, with permission to share her on my blog. Since then I've had the pleasure of making the first one (for dry skin) and dare I say, it should come with a warning - don't make it on an empty stomach or you'll end up devouring the lot!
Here's some words from Nicole..
Using maca powder in your skincare is fabulous because of how vitamin rich it is. Being super high in vitamin c and antioxidants makes it a real superfood for the skin. It has the ability when applied topically to increase collagen production and fight free radicals, both really important things as we age but also with helping counteract what we expose our skin to daily. It is also excellent for acne.
Here are two face mask recipes. One for a drier style of skin and one for a more oily style. Or summer and winter, as it’s ideal to change your skincare routine with the seasons.
Dry Skin Recipe
1 teaspoon maca
1 tablespoon organic fine oats*
1 teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon coconut oil or ghee
Make into a paste and rub all over the face and neck. Leave for about 15 minutes and jump into the shower to wash off with cold or lukewarm water.
* Note from Amy, I popped some oats in my thermomix to whip up some oat flour
Oily Skin Recipe
1 teaspoon maca
1 teaspoon seaweed (kelp) powder*
1 teaspoon honey
1 tablespoon water or apple cider vinegar
Make into a paste and rub all over the face and neck. Leave for about 15 minutes and jump into the shower to wash off with cold or lukewarm water.
* You'll find seaweed (kelp) powder readily online and in lots of health food stores.
For hyperpigmentation try maca on the face in a mask every second night or in a balm. Enjoy!
