Fizzy shower disks.

Fizzy shower disks

If there was ever a ridiculously easy and thoughtful gift to brighten up someone's day (or your own), this must surely be it. Fizzy shower disks. Made simply of bicarb soda, water and an essential oil of choice, it's a perfect job for the kids, and a great idea for Mother's Day.

We know the power of aromatherapy and its ability to impact mood, support easier breathing, create uplifting and calming environments - the science is there. Knowing this, it's good to remind yourself that creating a nourishing and nurturing environment doesn't need to feel like work.

Wondering what on earth you do with these? Easy. Grab a disk, whack 8 or so drops of your favourite invigorating oil on top, pop it on the base of the shower, jump under the shower and wait for those delicious aromas to hit your nose.

I find that one of these disks lasts two showers and of course, the closer the disk sits to the full force of the water the faster it disappears.

Fizzy shower disks

2.5 cups baking soda (about 2 boxes)
2/3 cups water
Essential oils of choice*

* My favourite morning shower oils are Easy Air, peppermint or lemongrass. They all fresh, uplifting and invigorating which is typically how I'd like to feel when I kick off my day! You can purchase any of these pure doTERRA oils retail or wholesale via me here.

Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius.

Grab yourself a muffin tin, small or large. Do not line! (I made the mistake of doing this and the mixture was so attached to the paper I couldn't get the paper off after baking. Consequently they looked a bit of a mess, though still work perfectly fine)

Precise ingredients do not matter here. You simply need to make sure you have a thick paste.

Grab a bowl and combine the water and bicarb. Pour the thick paste into the muffin tin, I generally make 8-9 in a go (in large muffin tin). If you use a small muffin tin you might like to fill them up, less if you are using a large tin.

Bake in the oven for 35-40 minutes, or until they are rock solid. Once cooled, turn the tin upside down and they should fall out with a knock. If not, knock harder with a wooden spoon!

At this point, I store my disks in a container and leave them in the bathroom, dropping on 8-9 drops of oil as I grab a new one. I feel this will create a more powerful aroma, knowing that the oil will evaporate over time. If you are gifting them, by all means, drop the chosen oils on, package up and gift away.

In the mood for more DIY'ing? How about making some linen spray to freshen up your sheets. Or some relaxing baby massage balm. This foaming hand wash recipe is super easy too!
