How to make toxic free foaming hand wash.

 Foaming hand wash

The ingredient list on many personal care products often reads like a science experiment. So where to begin? How do you know what is safe to use? It can be a bit of a minefield but I approach personal care products in much the same way as I approach the food I eat – I try to use products that are as natural as possible. If I don’t know what an ingredient is, I don't use it.

Making your own household products is a sure fire way to regain control over what goes on your body. Now before you panic, there is no need to go through your cupboards and clear everything out. Go slow, start with swapping toxic products as you finish them and overtime you will have completely overhauled this area of your life. You may enjoy this post to get you started.

Now, you may be thinking that making your own household products is time consuming but I am here to tell you it ain't. In fact, I can hand on heart say that the following recipe takes all of two minutes (FAR speedier than running to Woollies folks!).

With only a handful of ingredients and your chosen selection of essential oils you can create a truly personal, toxic free product that not only smells amazing but will have a positive effect on your emotional wellbeing. In fact, the most time-consuming thing about this recipe is waiting for your foaming hand wash pump to arrive in the post.

1 x 375ml foaming hand wash dispenser*
2 tablespoons of castile soap
1 tablespoon of fractionated coconut oil
30 drops of essential oil**
Water

Add the castile soap, fractionated coconut oil and essential oils to your dispenser. Now, very slowly (the slow part is important) add water until nearly full. Screw on your top, shake and viola - you have just made your very own foaming hand wash!

See! I told you. So very quick. I make these babies up to give as gifts, people LOVE them and will think you are quite the clever cookie.

* I purchase my foaming hand wash dispensers from Centaur Packaging, a family owned business located in NSW. (Oh and to be clear, I'm in no way affiliated with Centaur Packaging).

** For the sake of my health, my oil of choice is doTERRA, rigorously tested and some of the most pure and potent essential oils in the world. If you're yet to start your essential oils journey you can do so right now, right here!

Suggested essential oil combinations

This is the fun part and the combinations are endless. You might like an antibacterial option for the kitchen or something fresh and floral for the bathroom. I’ve popped down three of my favourite blends but would love to hear what you come up with.
